Thinking Paper #94: Do millionaires need more money to repair their grandparents sheds?

By Tim Massingberd James

Abstract

Millionaire model, author and TV star Sophie Dahl appeared on the Today programme this morning for money to repair the garden shed of her granddad, Roald Dahl. Do millionaires need more of our money for home repair?

Do millionaires need more money to repair their grandparents sheds?

As millionaire model, author and TV star Sophie Dahl acts as the public face on the Today Programme of appeal for money to protect her granddad's shed, Matthew Sweet sagely queried "Have I got this wrong? The international model and TV star Sophie Dahl is asking US for money to restore a shed?"

He had a point, and the Roald Dahl Museum's Amelia Foster was forced to immediately issue a retraction, stating that the Dahl family had 'already given generously' to save writing shed and they were mainly looking for donations from 'trusts and foundations' to save the shed.

The IIPBA would like to thank Matthew Sweet for pushing the impetus away from individual donations, as this would have inevitably led to bureaucratic filling in of Gift Aid forms, which as post bureaucrats, we completely reject.

The only question remaining is if she can't afford to repair a shed, what on earth is Sophie Dahl spending all her money on. Over in the twittersphere, Gary Bainbridge thinks he has the answer. He calls on Matthew Sweet to "Stop being mean to Sophie Dahl", going on to confirm that "All her money goes on finding a cure for Jamie Cullum". The scourge of Jamie Cullum has blighted our society for long enough, so we applaud Sophie for this. As his wife, she needs to find a cure more than anyone.

Conclusion

No, they don't need more money to repair their grandparents sheds, but if they can get it, they'll take it. That's why they're rich.
