Thinking Paper #85: The Magna Carta holiday

By Ron Ford Golightly

Abstract

The IIPBA has always loved Eleanor Laing, just look at our archives. We love the work she's done on X and Y etc etc. We also happen to really like her idea to hold a special bank holiday on June 15, 2015, to mark the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta.

Why do we like it?
  • The Magna Carta was the first step towards human emancipation from the ruling elites and blood lines
  • Erm, June 15th 2015 is a Monday and Monday's make me feel like I've only just left the comfort of the womb
  • We can have a good old laugh at the incumbent government of 2015 blaming the failing economy on us all having a day off (see Gideon's exuse for Q2 economic figures )

That is all
